Lurkers Anonymous

I'm a lurker. I look at the forum often, but seldom contribute. Why? Not sure exactly. Could be a deep personality flaw, could be that I just don't have much to say.

I have been a member for almost 6 years, and in that time (up until yesterday) I have posted about 115 posts. Doing the math, that works out to under 2 posts per month. Atrocious participation. Good thing this effort isn't being graded.

Well, I hope to change things, and the first step is admitting that I have a problem!

To conquer this, I'll need moral support. I call on my fellow lurkers to post, and the person who has been here longest with the fewest posts...gets a prize. (no doubt a non-tangible, zero-monetary value prize. Maybe a poem.)

I've lurked without an account for about a year. I finally decided to make one quite recently

I have lurking tendencies...I think we have to judge by time spent online vs. number of posts. I lurk just about every day for at least 1/2 hour since i joined - that works out to about 500 hours (conservatively). Divided by 167, That's about 1 post every THREE HOURS of active browsing....

I once lurked a lurking thread and feel that someone was lurking right behind me!!!

Kc your post count is higher than ether FJ or mine. But as I guys jump in the water is fine, you are even invited to join the Canon vs Nikon thread, where I am not nearly as active as I would like....

thats not lurking ben here since 2007 and have just managed 31 posts today or 0.02 posts per month

Guilty as charged.
I think there are many reasons for lurking and not posting and mine are primarily from the old days of, if you ask a question about anything, you get flamed and told to "read, read, read". It is not bad here, but the point is the same. There is a lot of knowledge here and other forums and people get tired of answering the same questions over and over again. Hence I read much more than I post and when I do not understand something, then I may pose a question, but seldom without trying to find the answer first.
Lurking is a double edged sword. Some feel we should be banished from forums because we have nothing to contribute. That is true to a point, but knowledge can be obtained by reading as well as babbling at the fingertips and knowledge is what I think most of us are after.
