Sunset

Hi all.

I'm a newbie on the Digital SLR world. I have my Canon for about 6 months, and after a few shots, and a lot of reading, I decided to took my chance and post a thread asking for C&C of more experienced photographers, since I feel there is still a lot to learn.

My preferred subjects are landscapes, sunsets and macro. For macro, I still don't managed to get good (in my humble opinion!) photos, so, I'm sharing a couple of my sunset pictures for your comments.

Let me firstly say I am by far, no expert. I have had my camera for about 4 months longer than you. Having said that, I really love the second one. The boats are what do it for me i think. Just gives me something to focus on

I really like the second and think it would be better - more peaceful and relaxing in tune with the warm sunset - without all the industrial stuff in the background, (chimneys, cranes, etc.) I might be tempted to do a bit of cloning, but that's just me... There's also a wee, red mark in the sky?

Really, the industrial stuff in the background "spoils" the photo a bit. I agree that some cloning could improve the photo, but, I have no experience with it, but, maybe I'll try with this photo to see the out coming.
Regarding the mark in the sky, I really don't know what it is

I'd clone out that mark in the sky but the industrial thing is only my opinion mate, others may like it. I just see it as a peaceful, tranquil sunset shot, but others may see it differently and like the industrial background. Why not have a go at cloning out the red mark first and take it from there? Bottom line is, it's a very nice shot.
