Took a beautiful drive this past weekend along the great river road near Alton, IL with the family. The foliage is near peak but I'll be returning this weekend to take more pictures. Here are a couple of some stops along the way. All C&C welcome!

Both are fine shots, but #2 gets my vote. Seasonal, peaceful and just looks "right" :)

The perspective in #1 makes the building look tilted. This aged subject in a forest setting seems to me to call for a darker presentation. It's a compelling subject that prompted me to play. I modified perspective, rotation, shadow/highlight, and brightness/contrast and came up with this. I'm not saying it's better -- just different. Even an artistic filter might be a nice touch. It would be interesting to see how a different time of day might affect how it looks.

#2 is a pleasing shot. You might turn the pumpkin a touch counterclockwise so as not to show the part where it was resting on the ground.

Thank you both for the feedback. Always good to have others perspective.

This old place was obviously a great subject. My intent was to take more of it but I had a car full of restless kids wanting to continue the trip. I'll definitely be going back.
I was playing around with this one some more and here's what I came up with...

This shot was taken at an apple orchard that was having a fall festival. The pumpkin was already placed on the ground in that position. Funny thing is that if I would have turned 180 degrees there were hundreds of people right there enjoying the event.

#1 cropped to tight, makes me think the subject is the steps.
#2 favorite... but I am troubled by the top of the corn and tree line being hidden by the middle hoizonal pole.
Keep shooting ! !

for #2 - Yes, +1 for the line of the pole and the line of the field stuck together.
Get lower, sit on the ground, get the tops of the corn between the poles.
Or lie on the ground so the tree line isn't then behind that pole. A pumpkin's eye view?

Many thanks once again for the feedback.

#1 Agreed it was a tight crop. There was a propane tank to the immediate right and a pole to the immediate left that I felt subtracted from the rustic feel if left in.

#2 Unaware of the positioning of the rail and top of the corn at the time. Great opportunity to learn from this and work on composition next time.

Love Pere Marquette park ! If you haven't yet, make that drive between Dec and March, rent a 100-400 lens and get some shots of the Eagles between Alton Il. all the way up to Louisiana Mo. and back down on the other side of the river on hwy 79 i think... great drive. Nice to see another "local" on here!

btw, love the pumpkin shot, but if it were me, i would have had the road blur into the background just a bit more...

Looking forward to taking some shots of the Eagles this winter. We've been several times but it's always amazing to watch them.

BTW- I returned this past weekend and just posted some more shots:

I like #2 as well, but I'd have turned the pumpkin just slightly to hide the stuff stuck to it on the right.

bspawr - if you haven't already, consider turning on the grid inside the viewfinder of your 7D. (manual, page 47) Assuming you used your 7D for these of course. The grid really helps me with keeping the perspective in check, especially when there's odd angles, rolling hills or curvatures.
