I took these pictures while camping from our canoe. I used a 75 - 300 mm IS Canon lense with a D60 body (now have a D20).

These are the FIRST pictures I have posted on this message board. Would appreciate all serious comments.

thanks,

Allen

Airedale1:

I would love to. What is the trick to posting a file larger than 100K?? I tried posting a larger version, but when I try to upload (as an attachment), the file is rejected.

Thanks for the comment and the welcome!

Thanks, liv2trip!

I live in Orleans. I have other pictures posted on the web, but they really are just the "recreational" pictures taken during vacation and posted mainly for family.

Allen.. Another Canadian mac fan in the forum is always welcome!! ;)
as for resizing.. make the image size 600 or 800 wide, and Save For Web from PS(E, CS).. watch the file size, and adjust the compression to make it below 100k. some pictures with lots of color go thru at 50, but you will see.

Welcome, macfan. I like both the photos for different reasons. The first one particularly looks a little soft. A common complaint of the 75-300. To get thew most out of the lens out to 300mm try to shoot at f/8 at the widest, f/11 is better. Nice color on both. Keep up the good work.
The title immediately brought to mind the saying; "It's hard to soar with eagles when you must work with loons." :-)

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

At the top of each section there is a sticky, which outlines how to post images. You cannot upload an attachment that is over 100k. The picture I have posted here is only 96K and it is 799 pixels wide by 578 pixels high. Resolution is set to 72 dpi. You can right click on any image posted here (including mine) as an attachment then click on properties and see what the person used for size settings. I hope this helps.

Nice shots.. especially the baby Loon. BTW - the Eagles are really Ospreys.

LazyPhotographer,

Thanks for the correction! Now everyone knows I am NO ornithologist!! The two fo them were juveniles not yet able to fly. I have a couple of shots of them soaring a few feet above the nest. We ate lunch on a small island about 50 feet from the other island where the birds were. In all that time, the birds never left the nest, nor did their parents show up.

Airdale1,

thanks for the tips!! You and all the others on here are fabulous. I am very happy to have found this very supportive group.

Skip,

thanks for the tip! I have spent a fair bit of money on camera gear. The D20 is the 5th Canon digital camera I have had in about 6 years. I even dropped my D30 into a lake and fried the darn thing (along with ruining a 28-135 IS USM lense. It was then that I found out for about $25 a year, I could have had "All Perils" insurance. Since I didn't have that coverage (damn insurance agent sold me $3 million personal liability though!), I had to buy a replacement (D60) rather than a nice lense. The deductable on my "All Perils" is only $500 so now I feel much better (Know anyone who wants to "steal" a broken D30!?!? -- just kidding!!).

I really would like to get a nice fast L lense. But that will have to wait until we are back from our Lisbon to Rio cruise -- for which I bought a PSD.

It may be repetitive, but I sincerely appreciate everyone's comments.

Allen
