Camera buying help, I'm at a crossroads (Aviation and Autoshows)

I currently have a 30D that is running out of life fast. I primarily shoot aviation but have been helping out a friend shoot autos for his car reviews. I was just invited to the LA Auto Show for the press days and I do not think my camera is up to the task.

I have been looking at the 7D for my aviation shots and its high ISO capabilities would help out with the auto shots. The 7D is just out of reach price wise before the LA Auto Show next month.

1. So I could either rent a camera (I am already planning on renting one piece of glass for the show)

2. I could go in the bucket for a used 50D or 40D both have nicer high ISO capabilities compared to my 30D

3. or, I could sell my never used Tokina 11-16 2.8 and mostly fund a used 1DMKII/IIn... but I am not sure if she is up for the higher ISO shooting... I know she would be better than my 30D in all aspects.

Any help or advise is appreciated.

I suspect that there aren't any that you want to hear, which is why you didn't get any so far. My personal feeling is that your 30D + a tripod & ISO 100 would work just fine for what you said you need.

My 30D is no longer trustworthy to me. Throwing too many errors, she has lived a good life.

Aviation with a XTi, which was released in the same year as the 30D.

The smaller rebel EOS cameras are too small for my hands and too hard for me to grip. I need something larger and heavier believe it or not. Thank you for the input though.

Those who feel they need a larger camera can consider an accessory battery grip, available at a pleasantly low price from Amazon, that increases the T2i's size by nearly half. Any grip can not perform miracles, however.

Do whats in your budget, i have a 50d that i use for autoshows, and the iso perfoamnce on it is great. I love my uwa so i wouldnt get rid of it for a body.

another option is get a 40/50d and get some 2.8 or wider lenses down the road instead of springing for a 7d...2.8 or wider lens means less iso is needed...thats my thought...

I picked up the 7D through the Canon Loyalty Program. I love my 11-16 and the thought of selling that to fund a older 1DII didn't sit well with me. There is nothing wrong with the 40/50Ds in fact, if I did not get the 7D I would have gotten the 40D.

In other news, I have tried and tried again and again and I can not replicate the errors on my 30D (So I guess I have a second body)

I am going to rent either the 16-35 2.8 or the 17-55 2.8 for the LA Auto Show and then save for some good glass down the road.
