I bought the EF-S focusing screen for the 50D and I do really love being able to better visualize the DOF when shooting with the 35mm F1.4L even though I normally autofocus. The only problem is that I noticed when I manually focus at F1.4 right at the 35mm F1.4L's MFD the actual point of focus is off by about 1/8th and inch or so. It's approximately one line of text off at standard 12pt times new roman(I was testing it on this).

Has anyone who has gotten this screen had this issue? I know I previously had this issue when the shims for the normal focusing screen came out and didn't got back in properly. This is obviously much less severe but I am a little concerned when I pull out my 100mm F2.8L which I manually focus.

I could send it to canon and hopefully they would be nice and fix the issue for free as my camera is slightly out of warranty. I could make the argument that they should have fixed it the previous time I sent it in with the EF-A focusing screen. However, I am going to HI in a couple weeks and so I can't send it in right now. It really is a non-issue when not doing macro and or MFD work, so I'll be fine with it there.

Unless your confident adding or removing shims, I'd send it to Canon.

Adding shims corrects back focus and removing shims corrects front focus

Where would you get these shims?

Or would you have to make them?
