Spent 2 hours on top of Clingman's Dome in the Smoky Mountians watching the sunset.

Great set, love #3.

I might be heading down there in a couple weeks. Was it crowded on the dome ? I'd love to get up there with a tripod and shoot for an hour or so but I'm not sure how much room there is and don't want to hog the view.
Wondering if it would be a better idea just to bring my camera with a 70-200 and leave the rest of the gear in the car.

Absolutely Stunning!

This is the first I've ever heard of Clingman's Dome apart from the comic definition in 'The Meaning of Liff' :o

I was in the area for 1 week and visited about 6 different places. Clingman's Dome was the most crowded of all the places I went, but not so much that I couldn't comfortably take pictures. It might be a different story during the last week of October - I hear that's the busiest time you could possibly go.

The crowds weren't bad, but I wasn't prepared for the weather (especially at 6,700 feet). There was a cold front during the first week of October, and it was probably 35* with 30mph winds. My hands were numb, my eyes were watering, and I only had my Benro Travel Angel with me. It's a very good tripod, but it only weighs 2 pounds. It nearly blew over with a 50D, 17-55, & 580EX on top of it in those high winds.

Those pics are great, the Dome is a great place for some spectacular lighting with super huge views. I'm with the others, #3 is great! The color graduations are awesome.

As far as it being crowded, the later you go in October it seems the less busy it has been for me. We usually go the last weekend in October and the crowd is there but not really in the way. It is usually freezing so you gotta get those gloves out!

The weather I can usually handle, just got back from a trip to Mt Washington and had to handhold every shot through 55mph sustained winds. Not so fun lol. I'll probably just leave the tripod and the rest of the gear in the car in that case. Thanks for the heads up.

Beautiful!

#3 would make a fantastic tryptich on canvas and I bet it would sell well in a gallery.

#3 deserves a frame and a spot on the wall.

I was cold the evening I sat up there waiting for the sun to set and taking pics. Not crowded at all, I believe it was in Oct. also, but not sure. Hate to see all the dead balsams due to the beetle infestation.
