Oct 14, 2010 17:02 | #7 Daddy_O wrote in post #11097861 I might be heading down there in a couple weeks. Was it crowded on the dome ? I was in the area for 1 week and visited about 6 different places. Clingman's Dome was the most crowded of all the places I went, but not so much that I couldn't comfortably take pictures. It might be a different story during the last week of October - I hear that's the busiest time you could possibly go. Mark-B

It might be a different story during the last week of October - I hear that's the busiest time you could possibly go. The crowds weren't bad, but I wasn't prepared for the weather (especially at 6,700 feet). There was a cold front during the first week of October, and it was probably 35* with 30mph winds. My hands were numb, my eyes were watering, and I only had my Benro Travel Angel with me. It's a very good tripod, but it only weighs 2 pounds. It nearly blew over with a 50D, 17-55, & 580EX on top of it in those high winds. The weather I can usually handle, just got back from a trip to Mt Washington and had to handhold every shot through 55mph sustained winds. Not so fun lol. I'll probably just leave the tripod and the rest of the gear in the car in that case. Thanks for the heads up. 5D Mark II - 1D Mark II
