I upgraded to LR3 a few months ago and have installed the recent update. From day one the program, during every work session without fail, starts acting crazy in the develop section, following a period of normal functioning. For example:

- adds on a preset when I'm nowhere near the presets, and it is not possible to even edit it out, I have to select a previous line in the history
- in the crop overlay mode it starts moving and displaying all the different crops I may have tried and zooming in and out for a few seconds (I just have to wait it out)
- I'll right-click but there is no drop-down menu when there had been previously (I usually shut it down and restart at this point)

2) I also just noticed that the option to Edit as layers in PS5 for my psd and tiff files is always greyed out and therefore unuseable.

It's so annoying I'm thinking of going back to LR2 if I can't get it resolved.

The recent update did not fix things as I'd hoped. I have not tried a reinstall as yet.

I also use Windows 7, which I don't like but was forced into to run things in a recent new upgraded computer system. Could WIN7 be affecting LR? (WIN installed first, then upgrade from LR 2 to 3.

I'd like to know if any others have experienced this with Lightroom 3 and have any advice to offer. I love LR but it's fading with this nonsense happening... thanks!

Boy that sounds pretty crazy -- I know that LR can act funny sometimes but not as crazy as that! I have more problems with Internet Explorer than I do with Lightroom:)!

You know a couple funny things have happened to me relatively recently that affected mouse use and other things -- like I said they were kind of funny once they were solved but not while they were happening! One thing that used to drive me crazy was the "touchpad" function on a laptop where all types of crazy things would go on. So, I turned that off long ago and use a mouse. But, relatively recently some family members had been using my laptop. When I got it back, all of a sudden things were acting very screwy and it took me some time to realize the touchpad had been turned back on -- aack!

The second thing was interesting. I have an Intuous tablet, with both a pen/tool and a mouse that interact with it. Those two I learned long ago to set them aside because just having the mouse sitting on the tablet could mess with my "normal" mouse and/or keyboard operation. Well, this was on my upstairs work computer. Again, some family members were using it, me on this laptop. At some point I needed to do some work on it, and I logged in, and everything was acting goofy! I logged out and in, rebooted the computer, all this stuff, and it didn't clear up until I all of a sudden took note that both the tablet pen and mouse were sitting there on top of the tablet! Aack!

So, I'm not venturing to suggest that you have an xx problem, but just know that sometimes external things can mess with our stuff, and it might help if you did a bit of troubleshooting in that direction while you are cussing out Lightroom:)!

You may be on to something here Tony, as these are not the sort of "bugs" I'd expect from the software now that you mention it.

I do have a tablet nearby and a new mouse with the new system; plus other stuff that maybe is contributing.

I'll start experimenting later tonight and post the results back. Thank you so much for responding!

Edit in photoshop as layers. Are you selecting 2 or more photos then right clicking? If you have just one photo selected all the commands in thet lower section of the edit menu are greyed out. Once you select 2 or more they will be active. Hope this helps

Thanks Alan, I delved into my Martin Evening LR Book after your comment and it appears I completely misunderstood the use of many of these options.

Thanks for clearing that up...

You are very welcome! LR can be confusing for sure.
