I have a question on what to do, i don't know how to respond. 2 weeks ago my wife and i along with another co-worker did a wedding shoot , when we were at the wedding party the bride asked my wife if she wanted some thing to eat my wife said see would get something to eat later and she didn't want to miss any shots then about 1 hour later the bride brought over a plate of food and some punch witch my wife ate. Well today we got a bill in the mail for 75 dollars for the food what do i do pay it or what ....

Depends on where you want the relationship with the client to go.....is there a clause in your contract concerning incidental expenses?

Legally, one is not liable for unsolicited goods.

Really? 1st off thats ridiclous price for food! 2nd of all this probably should have been cleared up before hand, but I would fight that personally. If nothing was said thats very unprofessional of them.

It needs to be in your contract. You get fed if you shoot over X hours (usually 4).

Depending on your location, you get fed the same food as the guests (this doesn't happen in some bigger cities from what I understand). You need to cover this in your initial consultation w/ the couple.

Absolutely not! The bride did not inform you that you will be paying if your wife ate the food. She even offered the food to her. You guys should be fed anyway since you were there for more than 4 hours I'm sure. So classless, I don't know what that bride was thinking!

Wow, i mean 75 is pretty low on a per plate rate. Ive been at two weedings in which i know the going rate per plate was 125 and 150. This is what the bride and groom paid out. 75 is cheap!

Getting back to the post. That is odd and rediculous on thier part. Ive never heard of someone sending a bill after offering a worker any type food. Its suppose to be a good gesture not something with strings attached.

I never knew there was a rule that if you photographed a wedding for over 4 hours you were suppose to be fed..

I always try my best not eat during a wedding period, whether its 2 hours long or 10 hours long. Its not my place to be eating food but thats just my take on it. On a few occasions I have had a very persistent bride (or mother of the bride) that actually brought the food to me and practically forced me to eat.

If I got a bill later on for eating that food I would fight it, trying to be as polite as possible in the process. Include the fact that several times your wife tried politely to decline eating, and that it was never mentioned that she was expected to pay for the dinner she declined and was forced to eat.

Who sent the bill anyway? The caterer?

I'd throw their bill in the trash and forget about it.

I eat. I'm human. I need nourishment. Not eating is silly if not stupid. Passing out is more unprofessional than chowing down with everyone else.

I wouldn't toss the bill in the trash, but I'd file it away and ignore it.

Really? I would think running around for ten hours would leave anyone starving and not performing at their peak. Or are you one of those guys that sneaks an energy bar in the corner or something and calls it good?

I've never photographed a wedding, but I couldn't get through ten hours of a desk job, much less a wedding job, without a proper meal. ;)

I don't really get hungry when im doing a wedding, but I do get extremely thirsty. Usually once the wedding is done it kind of hits me all of a sudden but while im doing it food is the last thing on my mind.

I agree about being fed over 4 hours. We are human and I need my food. It's kind of awkard for people if your taking photos while their eating anyways so this is usually a perfect time for you to eat, IMO
