I borrowed my nephews sony and practiced with it today. Tomorrow Im shooting my other nephew's engagement pictures. Since I have only just picked this camera up a couple days ago and have never shot with an SLR before I'm nervous...at least it's family and can be re-shot if need be. Here are a few from today. Please let me know what you think.

Shot with a sony alpha 390 with an old Minolta AF 35-70 lens.

Overall I think its a good start. Least favorite is the b+w, conversion doesn't look right. The white balance is a little off on the others, a slight color cast on my monitor. Keep up the practice and you will get there.

First 3 are wonderfully lit, the others not so much, there is a greenish hue on the last ones.

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.

watch the heads, don't cut them off the top, also i'm seeing the greenish hue on ALL of them slightly, but i'm on my crap computer at work, not my home "calibrated" monitor.

Yes leave a little more space around the images as you can always crop them later (you can't add).
The lightening look OK.
Enjoy it.
