Hi guys

Here are my pics from this years Axalp demo in the Swiss mountains. It's alive fire exercise open to the public, if you don't mind a bit of mountain climbing.
All taken with 7D and 100-400mm L except the panos which were with 24-70mm L. Exif intact.

Like the Mach Loop shots, I'm in serious envy over these. Excellent series!

Thanks guys. Yep, it was a good day, if long. It's very different having a show up in the mountains, but this is where they have one of their ranges, and this makes for nice pictures. This was my 3rd visit in 5 years, and expect there to be many more. Now if I could just move the sun so it's behind us for the show :-)
The shot of the heli dropping the flares is always a very exciting shot to get right, as the flares are incredibly bright, but they do light up the area well, just not the heli itself.

If anyone wants to try it next year, just let me know, 12 & 13th Oct 2011 :-)

Chris

Superb. I love F-5s.

Thanks guys. The heli dropping all its flares is always quite dramatic.

Great stuff, well worth the effort to get up there. Love the heli popping flares - great capture!

Thanks FA. There were a few others dropping flares, but I missed them as was looking wrong way. I expected something coming left to right, and a pair of F-18s came low right to left and dropped flares in front of crowd, bugger :-)
