I know there are other thread on this, but there are so many, and most are over my head.

I recently considered switching to LR from Aperture for various reasons, but am reconsidering as I am am having some trouble with raw processing in LR. I think I need some very basic intro guide to LR. In Ap. we I imported the Raw image Apeture Raw image process default did a fine job sharpening, I enjoyed the ability to use WB and exposure more powerfully with Raw images, and sorta left sharpening out of the workflow. It seems that with LR I cant do this, the default settings look terrible compared to Apertures. I've messed with the various sliders under the detail section, but I need some guidance.

Lightroom can process RAW files during Import according to a Preset which you can set as a default, or which you can specify in the dialog immediately before you being the Import. Many quick adjustments can be made while in the Library mode, but even more power is available while in Develop mode. And all that are available can be (but do not have to be) in the Presets, too.

I'd suggest you take some time to read up on Lightroom and follow through on some tutorials available both in books and online. There are three "standard" books by Martin Evening, Scott Kelby and Victoria Bampton that you can locate in Amazon that are each filled with a wealth of information and instruction on how to get things done, and working through just one of those books should have you up to speed quite quickly. Plus there are tons of online resources -- google "lightroom tutorial" and just work through the first page of entries, some from Adobe and some like LightroomKillerTips.com and LightroomQueen.com will keep you very invilved in hands on learning.

Yes, either or all of those books are aimed at stepping you through. Plus the Adobe sites have a very good setup for tutorials aimed at getting you started.
