...I have a quick question.

I shot with a 5D and 1D3 for a good long time, and could easily rattle off 800+ shots in a day. Now I've moved to a 5D2 that has huge raw files, and I find myself shooting many less frames. Has nothing to do with spray and pray, I just now find myself "thinking" about a shot a little more before I hit the shutter release. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the fact that I'm running out of USB slots to attach external storage to and that the cards fill up much faster.

Just curious if this has happened to anyone else?

And yes, I know all about sRaw, just kind of in the mode of "if I have it, use it" with the large RAW files. The cropping ability of the 5D2 files is insane.

You could delete some old crap, you know. I can't imagine all 800 shots per day were keepers! :)

I have plenty of drive space. The large files from the 5D2 have caused me to start cleaning out the old personal crap. For paid gigs, I pretty much keep everything except bit bucket shots.

Anyways...I'm just asking if it has changed how anyone else shoots.

Sports mainly. Not saying it was an every day occurrence, just saying it could happen. May you guys like to hijack a damn thread, don't ya :)

Not even the least bit. I've got a server set up with an 8x1TB RAID6 array (so 6TB useable), and there's room to expand it to 32TB just by adding hard drives. Whenever it fills up I'll just go and buy more.

How much space my photos are taking up is the least of my worries!

I easily take 800 pics when I shoot my son's sports games. I only keep the top 12 or so though unless all the parents are expecting at least one of their kids.

I have never just cracked away on the shutter just taking images for the sake of using the camera or trying to get a good shot. Picture the shot the way I want it and take a couple of shots. If I did sporting events I would take a lot more images simply to get the right movement of the subject.

I take less and less shots everytime I go out. I hate having to go through hundreds/thousands of images, culling the crap and deciding which of 2 images, that are virtually identical, are better, so I can delete one of them. Since I shoot concerts more than anything else, the angles, type of shots, after awhile, become fairly formalized. You create a "plan" for a shoot and, pretty much get it all done in the first 1/2 hour. Then you hang around longer for the unique, spur of the moment shots that may come up or try some new ideas you may have come up with or you just leave.

The camera's file size has never had a bearing on how much I shoot.

I shot with a 1DMKIII and 1DsMKII and always shoot full RAW, no sRAW on the Ds anyways. I have a drobo system and will replace the HDs with 2TB ones in a few months. 21MP from the 5DII may be slow loading if your system is not fully spec'ed out.

Ha. I just ordered a Drobo S (Esata). I have been having issues with my backups lately which has left me pretty much open for a disaster so I just just threw in the towel.
