I've been into photography for a few years now, just learning off camera flash, Ihave been reading & playing around with it now for 4 months. Here is a couple I took with a 40'' Umbrella camera left with a 580 EX II. All C&C welcome please.

The lighting balance is OK. I would like to see the light flagged off a bit so it's not spilling so much to the left of the frame. There is more light on the left corn then on the right which is distracting. Flag the light on the left corner and increase the ambient exposure a touch.

My question is, does the corn field have something to do with them or did you just pick the location because you thought a corn field would be cool?

What do you mean by flagging off the light on the left?? Something like a barn door?? I was using a umbrella, should I have used something else.

Also it was a 1 light set up, should I have used a 2nd light right of camera, to light the darker corn??

Yea, the corn field had nothing to do with them, just thought it was a differnet backdrop.

Thanks for your comments & inputs, much appreciated

The only thing I'm seeing from here (and maybe it's this uncalibrated Army laptop) is the first two posted images look a little over exposed on her right side. Especially #1. I like the corn, like how the light falls off to their left but not TOO much fall off that it fades to black.

How high was the umbrella in relation to them in #4? The light looks like it is primarily on their arms and bodies with their faces catching the edge of it. Just an observation.

Overall good shots and cute looking couple. Looks like you're getting the hang of OCF pretty well.

Yea I do think I over exposed a little much, but I am just starting out with off camera flash, and know I have alot to learn, hoefully this site helps me learn alot! Just reading threads has improved me so much.

Yea in #4 I don't remember exactly how high the light was, I am thinking by the light fall off, it obviously wasnt high enough. I will be outside tommorow shooting more, and practicing. I will be using 2 lights. So hopefully it will be more evenly lighted from left to right, and I will payh more attention the height of the lights in correspondence to there faces.

Thanks again everyone
