My nephew couldn't afford to hire a professional so I shot their engagement session for them.

I have been shooting kids and babies for a couple years with my S5. I borrowed my nephews new camera (sony a390) for this shoot. I LOVED shooting these...way easier than chasing a kid around! I am pleased with them considering the circumstances but I know you more experienced shooters will see stuff I didn't notice that will help me next time.

Thanks Philco for your e-session tips and tricks...helped a lot!

Had to add 1 more...I was shooting in the sun into the shade (they were standing under a bridge). Didn't mean for this one to look this way but I loved the way it turned out. I have a couple more from this spot that look this way also.

Moderator's Note: I had to link #9 as only 8 are allowed per thread.

Your images are good, but remember with the first two in your 8 the closer the body part is the lens, the larger it is with wide angle. This does not flatter the subjects. You end up with large thighs and small faces. Must move back to get the center more in proportion or else, use a 50mm or longer lens and stand a little farther and crop later.

Thanks Suzie. I was shooting with the 50mm. I didn't know it would do that. Next time I will stand back further like you said.

One more thing. Be careful when the subjects are wearing white. It makes the teeth look yellow or dim. That's why most of the time, you have to whiten the teeth a little more with a white shirt on.

I like these - very natural and nothing looks forced, a little PP and the will pop a lot more.

Great work! What lens did you shoot with?

Thanks! Most were shot with an old Minolta 50mm and a few were shot with Minolta 35-70. Since I have never shot with an SLR I really know nothing about which lenses are for what but read the 50mm was a good one for portraits.

I did some PP work in PSPx2. I would love to see what you'd do differently. Basically all I did was contrast and sharpen. I'd like to purchase different editing software in the future.

That's cool! Considering you haven't shot with an SLR before, you have done a damn good job.

I hope you don't mind I gave one of your photos a slight edit. The PP may not be to your taste but it is something that tends to float my boat. I applied a filter I made in Lightroom then just tweaked a few settings.

I don't mind the edit at all...I love to see what other people would have done. I love the way that filter makes the back ground look.
