Watermark on a Manual?

Why in the world would Cannon put a large “COPY” watermark in the middle of their downloadable manuals?

I wanted to print out my 60D manual on full size 8X11 but that watermark makes it hard to read.

Is there a legal way to get a copy that doesn’t have a watermark?

Because they want to sell printed manuals, I presume.

My guess is that Canon doesn't want anyone else printing these manuals and selling it w/o their consent. I can imagine some Joe-Shmoe with a little print-shop taking the PDF and make copies and selling it online to make a small profit.

I didn’t see printed manuals for sale on their web site; they give them away free in PDF format.

That would make Joe a criminal. Wouldn’t a criminal just use an Adobe application to remove the watermark?

So I don’t get to print a large copy of a manual that Canon doesn’t sell because Joe might make a few bucks?

I'll shoot an email to Canon CS and see what they say.

Yes, that would make Joe a criminal. But has that really stopped anyone before? People download MP3's illegally. People download and/or use pirated software, illegally. Some people get fake handicapped placard, illegally. And on.. and on.. and on...

There's a mentality out there that some feel it's only really wrong if/when you get caught. (It's sad, but that's how much of the world works, especially in the underdeveloped countries.)

Out of curiosity... whatever happened to your copy of the 60D manual that should have come with the camera? Don't tell me you're keeping that bag sealed/unopened in hopes of retaining resale value.

Nikon has a different way, where you can get a PDF without any such restrictions if you key in the serial number of your camera.

By the way, Dave1, you are using a pretty large font. At least I think that makes your post more difficult to read, not easier.
