Ever since upgrading to LR3 I've been finding that when view images in the catalog I'm prompted to keep or overwrite settings. I've done with for many images and can't see a reason not to do it for all the images.

I'd like to know if there is a way to update and overwrite those settings for an entire catalog so I'm not presented with the dialog or shown the exclamation point.

Rob,

First things first, take a back-up of your work, just in case ;)

Now select ALL of your images and goto Settings > Update To Current Process (2010).

The above should convert all of your pre-LR3 images to LR3 process.

Thank you. Unless I'm missing something this can only be done in the Develop module for a folder but I don't see a way to do with to an entire catalog.

If you make a collection containing all of your images and use that collection in the Develop module.

Ah yes. Worked like a charm. Thank you very much.

Oops. Spoke too soon. I'm going in to individual folders now and when I select an image I'm still getting the exclamation point and the dialog asking if I want to overwrite or use the catalog settings.

I went through a few more folders. Exclamation points are popping up everywhere. So I decided to select all the images in a folder and update. It seems to work and doesn't show any error but when I go back to that or other images in the folder I'm still seeing the dialog and the option to overwrite.

When I hover over the exclamation point of the image thumbnail in the filmstrip I see a tool tip message indicating there was an error writing metadata. Any clue what all this means?

OK I got it. Like other processes that you want to apply across many images, you have to select the photos and then right click over one of them that needs to be updated and choose Develop Settings and then Update to Current Process (2010). Then you see the progress bar indicating the task is being done and then Voila.

The other way was affecting only one image.

Even after I got it working I still find a few images that display the exclamation point and indicate there was an error writing Metadata. I have no idea why that is but if I then go to that individual image and overwrite, which is the same as Update, it then does it.

Oh well, I'll see what happens as I bring new images in to the catalog. I suspect that the issue only has to do with items in the catalog prior to the LR3 upgrade.

Any new Images you import will use the new 2010 processing, so once all of your pre-LR3 images have been converted you shouldn't, in theory, see the exclamation mark again.
