The Southern Cross (Crux) and the pointers (Alpha and Beta Centauri) taken out of focus to show the relative star colours.
The star on the left (Alpha Cent) is (predominantly) a G2V class star which is the same colour as the Sun and has been used to set the white balance in this image.

My camera club's topic for the month is Bokeh, so I was thinking of submitting this for something different. Do you think it will be too far out of the square for "normal" photographers ?

I really like the idea, but I can't really say who will appreciate the concept. With info on the image, it definitely is a good pic

I like the idea and the photo. I can see why your've put it on its side as it looks a little odd portrait with Alpha Cent at the top even though this is how i see it in the sky but it may look odd with the southern cross on its side.
Maybe a little more room between Alpha and Beta Centauri and the edge would be nice.

I like it and good image to show ppl the true colors of stars and it also brings out dim stars in the BG . Perfect example for those who follow astronomy . PPL not involved with astronomy of some type wont understand the purpose or concept of this image but may appreciate what they think is Bokeh (external link) :) . BTW of what few images i have seen of the Cross 99% have been this way on it's side . Thanks for sharing !
