I've been asking and asking but haven't seen anything yet.

It seems that more people are interested in shots of their back yard lit with the 86" and showing nothing other than "wow, that's a lot of light being thrown very far". Fairly useless.

This. I'm finding that many so called "photographers" are nothing more than tech junkies and are more interested in pixel-peeping and measuring light than using the tools to create a great looking photograph.

Though there is a person who I follow on Flickr that uses the v1 PLM and creates beautiful photos.

Here's a link to one of his examples: http://www.flickr.com/photos/aknacer/4433263241/ (external link)

No problem. Joel Grimes has also been using the v1 86" PLM for a softer effect on a lot of his recent work. Here's another example: http://www.flickr.com …/29210138@N04/4778788706/ (external link)

Thanks again. This is what I've wanted to see and I like what I'm seeing so far.

GCP :

Thank you for the two wonderful links, especially that last one. I was surfing his blog trying to find more lighting details but gave up, he has some awesome work though.

One caveat? (Is that how you say it?) that i have with his PLM photos, is that they are clearly PP'd.

I am far more curious in SOOC photos, even if done by amateurs, then a pro's PP shot.

And weren't the initial photographers more chemists then artists ? Its the tech junkies that hunt the newest and latest gear to play with :)

Yes, i am a tech junkie, and a photographer i always found the two to be a wonderful marriage when balanced :D

That doesn't make them any less a photographer. I concentrate on meeting the needs of my clients, others want nice pictures of family, others like tech stuff. For someone who uses "Geek" in their user name, I'm sure you are already aware of this.

Different uses for different people, and yes, I find it frustrating at times as well when trying to get real world feedback on certain items.

I knew someone who was hell bent on getting a camera with the perfect specs. Each time he purchased a camera or lens, he saw another that had better specs, so he sold the one he bought for the other. He found it was too much for him and ended up selling it for one that was more user friendly. Ended up selling that for a Canon G12 P&S.

Through all that time, never did he one produce a picture with any quality. I'm sure there are others here who buy a certain modifier but sold/returned it because it only produced F8 light in the left hand corner while the right hand side produced F9. These are the techies I speak of. People who buy stuff but don't produce anything with them.

90% I see a "review" or what not of a modifier, I get a wide angle view of a persons backyard showing how far the light can be thrown or how much the box feathers, but rarely do I see any reviews that show any real application of the product.

So, I take it that since there's a lack of photos with the PLM that I shouldn't expect so see any comparison with it and other light modifiers?
