Hi guys,

I recently had my first wedding. I am not comfortable to put them all online, but my favorites are on my blog on www.wimvangestel.com (external link) (the link is in my signature). I am curious about your feedback. :-)

Thanks,

Wim

They are just wonderful and interesting. You are great at story telling with your photos.

Love it! You need to post some on here, since many will not click on links to view. You obviously have a keen and creative eye and great control of lighting.

Wem, I'm not sure why you're not comfortable but I just looked through them and they're fantastic. The only bad thing that could come out of this is if you don't like/prefer to shoot weddings, this won't help as I'm sure you will book a lot more.

I'll have to go against the grain on these. I saw a few decent shots in your blog. Why would you not want to post your best work here?

That said, here's my take:
#1: Typical table shot. Nothing special.
#2: Same as above. I guess folks waiting around before the ceremony?
#3: Not feeling the hands in front of the bride's head.
#4: Pastries being served? Who's the guy blocked by the candle fixture?
#5: Looking at folks rear/legs/backside isn't terribly interesting unless they have something interesting on.
#6: Chair and curtain in the foreground is distracting. Groom blends in too much.
#7: Underexposed and noisy. Not to crazy abou the composition.

Thanks for the nice words, Zebedee, Jay, ChuckingFluff and Chris!

@Nick: Thanks for your elaborate comments. Also thanks for saying you like some pictures on the blog. To be honest, the ones I posted here are among those I prefer most and are those which the bride and groom preferred most too. But taste differs, of course. Too bad it's yours and mine that differ, since I truly respect you and your opinion on this forum. ;-)a Thanks for taking your time to comment, Nick. I appreciate it!

Hope you didn't take offense to my comments. When I comment on photos I absolutely do not mean anything by it except to try to offer up some constructive criticism instead of the usual gushing-over-the-images that is the typical response in here. I expect the same when I post up my own images. Extremely useful to get critique from my peers!:D

As I mentioned, I think you have stronger images in your blog. Just not too crazy about these. But as you mentioned, this is subjective!

Oh, Nick, definitely not! I know it was constructive criticism and I did ask for feedback and it was greatly appreciated. I was too happy with them - especially since they're from my first wedding - and this brings me down to earth. That's also very useful. :-)

I know what you mean about "brings me down to earth"! I am very familiar with this type of feeling myself!!!;)

I am gonna weigh in between the two opinions here. I like the pictures you posted a bunch, very creative and telling . When i look at them i didnt' see anything Typical, which i liked.

At the same time like Nick said, some are grainy and some have distractions in the photos. I don't mind it because its telling a story and gives character to the story.

I am viewing your photos like a story book capturing the moments of the wedding in pure form. As with any capture of the moment usually all of the factors aren't perfect.

I like it, its art, and its telling. bw!
