I was on my way to work the other day and saw a great sunrise about to happen. The entire sky was bright red but the overcast skies meant the light was changing fast. I managed to get my tripod set up in time to grab a shot right before it ended. It looked much better 5 minutes before when there was more color, but this shot turned out OK.

In my haste, I forgot to change my ISO from 1000 to 100 but with a little clean-up this file still turned out OK - I never really use anything over 400 or so on my 40D.

Also, on a side note, the JPEG I uploaded has plenty of detail in the shadows along the pier, but they are crushed when I uploaded the image to my website. Any idea why? It looks great in CS5, but Im not even sure if I want to display in image with shadows crushed this badly on my site...

Love the colors. I would have waited a few more minutes to get a slower shutter speed but, the picture is very nice.

Nice shot especially to be a rushed one. It's amazing how quickly the colors change at sunrise and sunset.

Thanks guys, glad you liked it.

Can anyone comment on my question on the crushed shadows above?
