I ran across this picture on flickr and noticed the pop of a full frame, but yet with a crop sensor. Thanks in advance.

I would say just PP with black and white as well as even lighting. Learn how to work a bounced flash well enough and it doesn't matter whether you have a cropped camera or a FF camera. The pop isn't from the sensor, but the lens and lighting as well as any PP that he used on the image.

Thanks man. So what type of PP do you think he used?

I assume that you are referring to the background blur/selective focus, which we normally associate with a wide aperture on a wide lens such at the 85 f/1.2 or the 50 f/1.2. Now yeah, people talk about the fact that shooting with a full frame gives you some extra "room" there, that is a narrower slice of focus and more blur.

But, in looking at that shot, I'd say it could have been done with a crop camera using one of those two lenses, say the 50mm, since on a crop camera a 50mm has a closer/narrower view than you would get from a full frame.

But, I saw no exif to that shot and I don't know if Flickr has the ability to read it.

As far as post processing, aside from the B&W conversion and the vignette/dark blurry frame, I dunno but I'm no expert in post processing looks. In fact, if the photog applied Photoshop blur to the image I probably wouldn't be able to quickly spot it, so who knows -- the shot could have been taken by the nifty fifty and blurred:)!

Hmm, a 30 mm focal length at f/2.2, I don't have the slightest idea of what lens that might be -- anyone have an idea?

Ah, OK, that makes sense! I'm not used to checking out Flickr stuff!

That is a lot of blur for f/2.2, but with 30mm the photog would have had to get close to get that shot, so it was probably good for that without Photoshop blurring, ya think?

Yep, focus distance was 19 inches, DoF was 0.4 in. front and back.

Well, at .4 inches, it was lucky to get both eyes in focus!

Thought you were serious for a second....

VERY easy to achieve that shot with a crop body. Get in close with a shorter focal length and wide aperture.

It's a fallacy that you can't get pop/wow/bam/shallow DOF from a crop body.

Composition+Lighting counts for WAY more than sensor size.

Yep, and that's what gives that photo that unique perspective...

I'm pretty sure that's the same Elisha who posts here on POTN - you could PM him and ask exactly what he does - here's his profile: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/member.php?u=84094

I just converted it to B&W, slight crop and not sure what else. Must have been a previous version of LR or LR 3 Beta since I can't see the adjustments I made to it in LR 3.2
The borders were created via the vignetting sliders in LR.

And like Aaron said, it's all about the lighting...
And also I normally soften portrait pics by about -30 to -40 on the clarity slider so the skin looks more pleasing. Then take em to CS5 and do a local contrast adjustment and save as JPEG.
No sharpening whatsoever on most of the images of my son!
