I would post a flickr link, but the colors come out all weird when I upload to flickr D;

Here is a poorer quality Facebook version:

I'm new to all this, but from my observations, I think I'd say I should have been in control of the light and had less on his back and more on his face. I don't know how valid of an observation that is, though. I also believe I should have used a tripod. ;[Anyways, critique please! 8 D

Kudos for trying something different.

What's your intention with the shot? Am I supposed to concentrate on the guy, or his tattoos? I would compose, pose and light with that in mind.

The image looks soft. However the attached picture is of low quality (lots of jpeg compression) and stripped of EXIF info so it's hard to tell if the softness is due to camera shake, missed focus, insufficient DoF or just plain old compression.

Nice take on this image. It's interesting. I am also thinking the same thing that you want to focus on the tattoos and the guy coz if I were to shoot this I would let him wear a black shirt and use a black BG. Then use grid spots pointed to his tattoos to give a dramatic effect and use a back light on his face.

This looks a bit flat to me.
