It seemed like today was one of those days where everything just worked. I had just cleaned my car, school work was minimal, the weather seemed decent enough, and the leaves are starting to change. I decided to take a drive up a fun little mountain road and brought my camera along. Just as I made it to the photo spots, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds and gave me about 20 minutes of excellent golden-hour light. I love days like these!

Anyway, here's what I came up with -- I was trying to get that awesome light to come through but I fear I may have gone overboard :o. It's so hard to tell when you've been staring at the same picture for a long time. Thoughts?

Nice! First two are sweet, #1 especially -- I like the way the sunlight is visible in the reflection on the fender.

These are nice ones in great locations.
I wish one had a full length reflection from the sky in the side, though. And is there a reason that you kept the roof rack on? (Just askin').

Im gonna guess that you are well out of warranty... you know what time it is right?

Its VF supercharger and haladex controller upgrade time!

Believe it or not, when I bought it VW offered another 5 years/60k miles of full coverage. I bought it with less than 1600 (no, that's not a typo) miles, and evidently they thought it was 'special' enough of a case to keep covering it!

So the bad news: I won't be doing anything significant under the hood any time soon.

The good news: I still love the thing to death and don't feel the need to tinker with it just yet!

Next time you shoot something like #1, try using a longer lens, stepping back a bit and getting just a touch more angle (to the rear) on the shot. That combined with a good rule-of-thirds compo and that setting sun would look really nice. Don't get me wrong, it's still a nice shot, but the distortion doesn't do it favours and there's something just not perfect about the compo. Nice shots either way, though.

Awesome shots! Absolutely love 1,3 & 5!

Is that the upper section of Flagstaff?

Agnu -- I'll definitely give that a try next time. There are a few things (including what you've mentioned) about that photo I want to fix. I wish I had used my tripod for it so I could keep the ISO a little lower. It's a bit noisy viewed full size.

Colombia -- It's actually the top of Magnolia. Probably has a little less traffic than Flagstaff (though, it was pretty busy when I was there).

Thanks!

It's a great little drive, though it's only good for a couple of months out of the year. It's usually either covered in snow or covered in gravel...

I know what you mean. Even when there is no snow on the ground you still can't go for a nice drive in the mountains because of all the sand and stuff they put down.
