Hey guys, I have a Canon 1D classic I've owned for a month and most of my photo traffic comes from night clubs and parties with little light. I've been able to deal with it last time but I need my own permanent external flash for night photography.

What sort of external flashes would you suggest that are excellent for the price? I'm still at college, sort of on a budget! I have access to a 580exII but I can't use it :(

I borrowed a 580ex from school and it's really neat, lots of controls and I like being able to tilt it around. I really tend to do mostly night club shootings at night, and I'm on a budget. How well would a 270ex treat me?

Is it better than the built in flashes found on Rebels? I took these with an older Rebel XTI, and I would be happy if it did better than this,

do you need to use ettl? if so get a 430ex ii and an ettl cable so you dont have to keep it on top of the camera. if you're willing to go manual with cheap radio triggers or sync cable, you have a range of options like yongnuo triggers and flashes - super cheap and effective - found on ebay, as well as lumopro flashes from mpex.com .. apparently cheap and great

Yongnuo 468 has ETTL. $100ish new. Yongnuo 460ii if you are going to shoot manual, has a bit more power. That is like $50 or $60 new. I haven't had a problem with mine other than running out of battery from shooting too much.

I use Yongnuo ETTL flashes but not sure if they work in ETTL mode on a 1D
