brilliant :) thanks for clearing this up guys.

certainly makes for easier studio shooting not having to worry about cables!

vesa, i understand what you've said to mean that without "any bright flash" ie - without the 580EXII's firing, then the Elinchrom will not fire either?

So, I do need the speedlites to trigger the D-Lites?

Will check this out later and report back, but I think you've nailed it.

It looks like in your case 580EXs are triggered with TT5s and D-Lites are triggered with the light from 580EX. That is totally working combination but some people like to use triggers and different channels as it lets you to measure each strobe individually. When doing actual shoot it does not matter how you trigger your strobes, optically or with radio triggers. If you dont need to use speedlites then you can connect TT5s to D-Lites with sync cable

both speedlites are on M so I can control them pretty well (ok, so I have to physically walk over and change them, but that's cool) and the D-Lites are controlled by their power setting on the back too.

p.s. the speedlites are only to blow out the backgrounds anyway, so they are set to full power :)

I picked up a pair of cables to do exactly the same thing as you are. There is an electronics store (Radio Shack) and here is the part number and also the link of the thread on POTN. Hope this helps. :)

Pocket Wizards have a 3.5mm (1/8") mono mini phone jack and so does the Elinchrom D-Lite.

All you need is a standard mono cable with 3.5mm phone plugs on each end.

They're available from FlashZebra, Radio Shack and most electronics retailers.

Here's an older purple 300RX. Please look at the high quality cables Robert made for me. These cables are quality stress relief connectors. The trigger in the "glittery" bag is my cybersync. I'll use my flex units when I want to trigger the strobes with my sekonic meter.
