Took the family pumpkin-picking last weekend. Met a guy taking photographs of his family. He tells me he's a professional photographer and does portraits of kids. I asked if he could take a picture of the entire family on my camera. He does. Then I offered the same for him. That's when I noticed that he's got his camera set at "P" with ALL focus points active!!!

I was really taken aback by that. My wife consoled me saying different people may choose to use their equipment differently. But it really irked my that a person identifying himself as a "professional photographer" would throw themselves completely to the whims of their camera.

I actually do that when I hand my camera to strangers for pictures. P or GREEN BOX mode for shots like this.

Even if he used P mode for all of his shots, if they are great shots then more power to him.

Was just thinking yesterday about how much time and effort I put into getting the BG 1-2 stops darker than a subject I lit with a softbox. The results weren't that great and my thoughts turned to, 'maybe I should just put this thing in GREEN BOX!!!'

It's always something!

Just "P" would have been just fine with me. But ALL focus points?!? I'm not even sure I know how to focus with all points active. It's very unnerving.

That's what my wife said also. I'm still not convinced. I'm so curious I'm thinking about calling him for holiday photographs...

Wait, maybe he is good at the business end.

In the end, this is totally all that matters...
