Can anyone recommend me a quality, moderately priced CPL for my 15-85? I don't want to cheap out, but top of the line is probably not necessary. This will be my 1st CPL so any advice on use would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Ken

I'm gonna be "that guy" that gets called a gear snob here, but... a c-pol is the one thing I would get top of the line. I think it makes a huge difference in a polarizer. I've had cheap ones and it's a noticable difference. Poor optics rob contast and color, and don't forget a c-pol is two layers of optics. I am sure I will be called a snob and whatnot, but you asked for opinions, and that is mine. For my 15-85 I have a B&W Kasemann- normal width, not slim. Works with a lens cap and doesn't vignette.

I do however recall someone paying a very reasonable cost for a Hoya of some model I can't recall. Hoya makes nice stuff, that's for sure. Try Maxsaver dot com, I think they were reasonable.

Taken with my 15-85 with the pol... great for colors in the harsh sun (my bad with the white balance).

Jethro, Idk why you'd think you'd be called a gear snob, that is a very very very solid suggestion. Why buy $700 optics that are great and slap a sh*tty filter on it, I say go with high end whatever you do, I do not use CPL's so I can't help but do not put bad filters on it. Camera will only take pictures as good as the worst glass element in your set allows!

thanks for the advice, I'll spend the money on a high quality CPL if necessary. I tried to go to maxsaver and got a domain parked page. What should I be looking to pay?

How does this filter rate among the 15-85 CPL filters?

It's the same as a Hoya Pro1 so it rates pretty well :) I originally found it by browsing the 15-85 thread -- original posting here: https://photography-on-the.net …p=10905930&postcount=1043

I have Tiffen 58CP. Not so expensive, but not the cheapest one.
Works perfect.
