#1 is the better of the 2 images. #2 is very noisy and just isn't as attention grabbing as the first one. However, pushing the 7D to iso 12800 is nice. I would like to see some more.

That was experimentation with Topaz in post processing. Some shots look really good with it, some not as much. Yes, I'm routinely shooting at 12800 ISO in this stadium. Noise Ninja cleans the shots up well.

Here is another shot that had minimal post work and I don't think I used Topaz on this one at all.

I think that Topaz makes them look blotchy.

Good shots but I don't like the look, blotchy and looks way over sharpened or something.

It is better on some than others. It is great for baseball shot during the day. But these night shots, under the lights aren't the best. My son doesn't like them either. I thought he would, but no.

that is some high ISO there... do you not have a 2.8 lens? B/c that is some major noise!

That is a 2.8 lens and 12,800 ISO. It is a high school field.

The second shot above was as much due to post processing as the noise. The other shots had the same camera settings.

I feel your pain, football in dungeons is hard. Try tossing a flash in your bag next time and asking the line judge or another ref if they'll allow you to use it. Stick it on the base of your monopod. Even the slightest pop of light will make a heap of difference. ISO 3200 is a nice limit.

Well done considering the circumstances.

I agree.
I use either 1600 or 3200 on my 1d mark II and after i run it through noise ninja there is no noise!

What shutter speeds are you getting at that HIGH of an ISO? B/c I have shot at the dim HS fields and never needed to go over 3200 @ 2.8 @ 600ish/sec
