I am considering starting a site for photographers that It will provide a service for photo editing and graphic design. I want to focus on Wedding & Event photographers that tend to have a large workflow. I already have graphic artist lined up and 100% of the transactions would be web based. I just wondered who thinks there is a market for this type of service.

I would think that you would have to work closely with the photographer so that the finished product reflects the original vision he or she intended. As far as a market for something like this, I would imagine that there would be if you can get it right. Lots of photogs don't enjoy the editing process.

Most weddings I shoot come in around 1.5Gb - that's a lot of data to transfer back and forth. Not to mention the time delay added to getting back the images to the couple.

There is certainly a market for this, but generally it's in the fashion and advertising fields.

Personally I factor in editing into my costs - as a freelance it adds to your 'working days' per year. In theory you'd have to pick up an extra job per job sent to you to make it financially viable. And then I'd still be working the same hours to get the same money.

Adam Gasspm. Good point. And when you are talking cost it should be reasonable. I plan on outsourcing the work to friends in the Philippines. Wages are lower and there is pleanty of work force witht he right skill set for this. If I can produce the digital layout for a 20 page wedding alblum and give the photographer back 200 edited images of thier choice for around $100-200, it shouldnt be hard to justify the time savings. These guys are already working in the Fashion and advertising fields in the PI so it shouldn't be a hard transition to Western customer base.
