Hmm, these all seem to be a bit soft and OOF. Maybe it's because I don't have my glasses on. Also composition seems a bit meh, sorta snap shottish. #6 and #9 are best imo.

That's a cool story bro.

Nope, I have my glasses on and they are all soft. The white balance is all over the place too. It does look like an interesting place though.

Howdy Mike!

Interesting shots. I think I would agree with the earlier comments regarding composition, I like #6 and #9 the best. For shots like this, if you're initially shooting in JPG, you want to be able to set the "White Balance" on your camera to deal with the indoor lighting, and honestly, you're going to want a tripod for low light shots like this, especially when what you're going for is the architecture. Lacking a tripod, maybe try to find nearby objects you can use to steady the camera for low shutter speed shots? A table, banister, whatever works.

Are you familiar with things like White Balance yet, and how to alter it? And are you shooting in RAW or JPG?

Mike,

Since you are in the KC area, I would like to invite you to visit our Blue Springs based camera club. We have a great group of photographers with all levels of skill and we are working to get people more comfortable with using their cameras. The club is called Imagemakers and we meet the second Saturday of each month and also try to schedule an outing each month. We have a page on Pbase if you are interested.

The next two months we are not having normal meetings. For November we are hosting a guest speaker, Nick Vedros, and are meeting at the Blue Springs Civic Center. We always have a Christmas dinner for the members during the month of December. The Nick Vedros event is free and open to the public so drop by and listen to Nick. He is a KC based commercial photographer. Google his name for a link to his site. Feel free to message me if you have any questions about the club.
Keep taking pictures and viewing the results. That is how we all learned.

I would be very interested. I thought about taking classes or something to further my knowledge. Unfortunately the next two months are very busy for me. I am a retail store manager and with the holidays and a big anniversary (20 years) coming up I probably won't be able to dedicate much time to this new hobby. I might send you a private message early next year if you don't mind? Thanks for the invite. I really hope to do something like this soon.

I will look further into the white balance settings. Like a previous poster said above...my shots are sorta of snap shots. I see something and I shoot. I try to change the ISO and maybe the mode but further than that its just blind luck.
