I got the 60D as a gift to myself, as a replacement for my Rebel XS. I have been asked by my bestfriend to shoot her girls in two weeks. I am uncertain as to which lens to use.

I'm leaning towards the 50 1.8 for torso type shots, and perhaps the 100mm macro for full body shots.

I also own the following: 18-55 (kit lens from Rebel), 55-250 4-5.6, and the 18-135 3.5-5.6 (kit lens from 60D).

Many thanks in advance!!

Canon 60D; Canon Rebel XS; Canon lenses: 50mm f/1.8, EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (Rebel kit lens), EF-S 55-200mm f/4-5.6 IS, IS 18-135 f3.5-5.6 (60D kit lens), EF 100mm f/2.8 macro; and Canon 580EX II...and a whole LOT of ambition to learn!!

Just the opposite, probably... use a shorter focal length for the full length shots, especially if shooting them together. Use a longer focal length for the tighter face, head and shoulders or torso shots.

It depends too, on how much working room you have.

If you are close and need to use 35mm or wider focal lengths, be careful. It's easy to add wide angle distortion... Too close will make their noses look large in proportion to their ears.... Too close to the edge of the image frame will cause distortion, too.

And, depending on how old and how active the girls are, a zoom might be handy. The 18-135 might be my choice, if shooting outside in good light.

It depends too, on how much working room you have.

We'll be outside at a local historic mansion/garden or a local pumpkin patch. The mom hasn't decided which one to use. I'm leaning towards the pumpkin patch, though.

And, depending on how old and how active the girls are, a zoom might be handy.

The girls are 6 and 9. I've already informed the mom: no sugar drinks or foods. Give them a good sized snack 40-45 minutes before the session. Thankfully, the girls know me so I think they'll be comfortable with me.

Make sure to bring along your 580EX II in case you want some fill flash.

Side note - if you happen to live in Northern Virginia, have you dropped into the Northern Virginia thread https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=321311?

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.
