Oh wow!
You guys seen the new phottix VDSLR rig (external link)?

Wonder if pricing will give redrock/zacutto a run for their money.

What kills me with all these systems is the price. I would love to have one to play with but when the complete systems cost more then my camera how does that make sense. Capitailism at it's finest. I wont buy until the prices come down to something I consider realalistic.

That is where I'm at. When I look at them, I just don't see how they can justify the cost of a bunch of tubes and connectors costing 1K +. I'll wait until they get down to 400 or less. That is my opinion, and of course worth is more than the material cost.

The same goes for the follow focus kits out there. I just cannot feature spending that kind of money for a plastic gear. Hopefully Deals Extreme will make a knock-off.

Up to you I guess. My lights cost more than double my camera.
And my lights make bigger difference than if I upgraded to the newest camera.

I understand why these cost what they cost, but someone needs to make cheaper stuff so people can actually buy a system and figure out if they need something better.

Look at this guy's rigs.

I bought a magic spider simba shoulder setup, and it cost less than USD300.

It's no Zacuto or Red Rock Micro, but it works for me with a few DIYs (used a spare rod I had and mounted bike handles, bought and mounted a kirk arca-swiss clamp, going to counterbalance it on my own).

I was kind of wrapping my head around getting one of these until I saw the shipping to the United States - 75$ USD. The shipping is 25% of the items cost. I've shipped things to Japan and Taiwan in the past few months, and I know its not cheap. However, that kind of put a damper on it for me.

The prices have pretty much doubled now compared with when gini first came out with them. I think they're now charging about $600 for the rig Zexun has, not including s+h.

That's auction price, I'm talking about the BIN prices. They used to be cheaper.

Nah no one should ever "buy it now" for Gini rigs. Not worth the price.

Of course, I'm totally with you there. But the fact remains the BIN prices have been increasing, and there must be some reason behind it. There's been rumors that gini may possibly pull out of his ebay store and "go mainstream" like other rig manufacturers.

If that's the case, you may never see a $300 price tag for the rig you got, ever again.

Yes, he even has a canadian distributor now I think.

Still, USD300 is a great, great setup for a first rig, or even as rig parts. I just bought my counterbalance rubber weights for like SGD25 (about USD20) and I got many many permutations of weights. Used a spare rod and fixed a bike handle to it, and then put on my own kirk clamp and plate. Altogether about USD360, and i'm good to go.
