Flickr - "interesting photos from the last 7 days"

How does flickr determine what is interesting?

I know it's not by the number of comments since some of these interesting images have less than 10 comments, and in some cases, less than 5!

Most of the images do seem interesting to me, but there are a few that I can't figure why they are there.

What picks the images deemed as interesting? Human? Computer?

I just want to figure out the criteria flickr goes by to determine what is interesting.

BTW, does flickr notify you when you're image is being showcased as interesting?

It's kinda like the search results on Google. There is an algorithm that uses things like the number of views, number of comments, number of times marked as a favorite, etc. But it is more complex than that because the views, comments, etc. have different values depending on the "interestingness" of the flickr user who viewed, commented, or whatever.

So if you have:

- image one: several hundred views, but only by people who are not registered on flickr.
- image two: only a few views, one comment and one marked as favorite, but the comment and favorite were by registered flickr users with a ton of "interesting" images

then the second image could be considered more interesting by their system.
