I want to first apologize for making another "which lens thread." I am debating long and hard, and it would be great if some of you can give me some info. on your experiences.

I just sold my 70-200mm F/4 to help fund the F/4 IS version. I was set on the IS version until I began contemplating on simplifying my lineup. I just dabbed into OCF photography and want lenses that can do portraits. However, I will also be taking this kit with me to China when I start work there in a couple of months, doing a lot of candids and landscape.

I've been thinking about selling my Tamron 17-50 & 60mm Macro to help fund a 24-105 IS, and with the money from selling the 70-200, help fund the new Sigma 85mm.

So my biggest gripe is whether the 24-105 is really a good portrait lens, and if its sharp at F/4. I will be doing portrait, candid, & product photography with it. The focal length is what attracts me the most to this lens. DOF wouldn't be a factor since I will also have the Sigma 85mm.

I heard nothing but good reviews on the 70-200 F/4 IS and really want that lens, but don't know if it'll "complicate" my lineup, especially if I will be bringing my lenses everywhere. Would I miss the 100m+ range?

Setup 1:
Sigma 10-20
Tamron 17-50
Canon 60mm Macro
70-200mm F/4 IS (new)

Setup 2:
Sigma 10-20
Canon 24-105 (new)
Sigma 85mm (new)

For a good zoom range, I would go #1. It will over all let you do almost anything that you want and the only thing you loose is the high speed of the 85mm F1.4. Unless you need that shallow a DOF or need really good low light then I would not bother with it personally.

If you want an 85mm you could trade the 60mm macro or sell it and buy an 85mm F1.8 Canon lens, but you loose the macro.
