I set up a remote behind the goal, 7D with a wide angle lens, battery pack on the 7D. Pocket Wizard Multimax on the 7D and the transmit PW on the hot shoe of my 1D Mark IV. I had to get reasonably close for it to fire. I was using a Mark III 1D and the remote was a 40D. I had the PW on top of the remote camera and I read that if it is close to the ground it does not transmit well. I tried putting a 5 ft stake in the ground and hung the pw from that but with similar results. I know that the 40D obviously won't fire at the same rate as the 1D but it is barely firing the remote at all. Would love to find the answer to the OP's question too. Christopher Cecere

Also try holding the shutter at half press a little longer. I found that when using a faster camera (40D in my case) to a slower (20D) it made a difference. Were all the batteries fresh? I was on manual focus, had fresh batteries. The camera with the transmitting PW was shooting frequently with changing focus, so half pressing was frequent. www.stevenlimentaniphotography.com

The pre trigger cable will keep the cam from falling asleep. Also I have found that if I use the MultiMax as the transmitter and have the PWII as receiver I had better luck when it came to longer distances.
