how to keep track of customers photos?

I want to do a Christmas shoot for kids and wanted to know how to properly file the photos so that they get to the owners after printing.

any ideas?>

In lightroom you can tag them. You can also rename the files on import.
There is always the list "paper " method of keeping track. Record their name as their pictures are being taken. You can also write their name on a dry erase board and have them hold it was you take their first picture.
Without a lot of detail, this is the best that I can come up with.

Thanx, I was thinking about shooting with the EOS utility and renaming the file n the spot also.

Thats the best way. I did a project last year with family portraits and not renaming files was a mistake !!

I will have a card that they family fills out w/ all the pertinent information (read: contact info for potential future client). I will write the file numbers on the card (ie. 1297 - 1299) and then will have a line for which file I actually used. That way I know which one to use if they want reprints. I then file them away. Simple as that.
