Anyone ever shoot cycling, as in velodrome competitions? I did the USA Cycling Masters Nationals here in Indy this past week. Long hours, split shifts and then the editting and uploading.
If you have shot this, how was your sales to competitors? Based upon the number of competitors, I have a projection of sales and I am wondering, a little late but, what did you do to increase sales?

Jeff,

I have limited experience of marketing track cycling images, but I'll throw in a quick idea or two...

Have you approached all the teams involved? Custom online galleries highlighting riders from each team may generate additional sales. Most teams will have websites with contact details, maybe trade a thumbnail pic for their site in return for a link to your gallery.

Are you marketing unique products? Rather than straight prints, why not offer poster style prints, calendars, DVD slide-shows or collages for each team.

Are any of the teams local to you? Perhaps you could pay a visit to one of their team events/meetings and drop off some samples, flyers, do some on-site printing?

For the teams that are not local, then try some direct marketing - post out a pack of contact prints, order form and return mailer - follow up with a phone call, e-mail etc...

Can you set up an arrangement with the event organisers to drive sales, maybe linking via their website? Assuming of course they didn't have their own official photogs there...

How are you operating your online sales? Is it easy to buy from you? Are orders fulfilled quickly? If it's not easy to buy then this may limit your opportunities.

OK... it's all pretty obvious stuff and you're probably doing some/all of it already *lol*... but some thoughts nonetheless... good luck!

---- Gavin

Gmen I was the official photograher. USA Cycling was to co-ordinate promotion along with MT Velodrome. They included one of my business cards with each athletes package plus I had about 500 cards onsite, which about 400 were taken.

Ideally it would have been nice to list the images by each event but, not knowing much about the sport plus the fact that the PA system sucked and I couldn't understand what was being said, it didn't get done that way. Instead it is listed by date day and night sessions.

I have taken some notes on how it can be done better next time, such as I will have the same sheets as the officals and will record the beginning image and ending image numbers. That way I can list them by event.

Check your PM's too
