Local camera club has a competition based on a Portfolio (projected images). I have chosen my 4 to enter along the lines of Animals with Horns.

The below are straight out of the camera and I will process them. But

a) does it work as portfolio?
b) any thoughts on processing them for submission as a portfolio?
c) any thoughts on processing in general?

Highland Cow
I know the foot prints in the snow are not good but there is not a lot I can do about it

Takin
I know the horns are cut-off but it is the best one I have

OK I thought of the following ....

1) Crop #1 and #4 to make head shots like in #2 and #3
For a portfolio, that would make sense

2) Crop #1 and #4 to rmove the background and leave just the animal
I will then have 2 head-shots and 2 body-shots, but can still show the yak scratching himself.

Thoughts?

3 is somewhat photographic, I suppose. But it too suffers from the compositional boredom that they all do. Notice that every image has the subject in basically dead center. It suggests that you are not making choices about composition and framing; and this suggests that there isn't much photography going on.

If I were considering this portfolio offering, I would be wanting to see more of a variety.

I like No. 3 the best, I feel it is lacking vivdness and color though. Perhaps increase the saturation and contrast a bit? I would also crop a lot of the backround to the right of the photo out.

No. 1 has something very distracting in the left upper corner, and really with wildlife the key is eye contact. I personally would have zoomed in on it and have been patient waiting for some eye contact.

No. 2 it's cropped weird. The antlers (?) are cut off, and you are not at eye level. If you would have been at even eye level it could have improved the shot.

No. 4 is a very akward pose. I dont like it at all, too much trash in the back, too far away from the yak, too much fence, too much cut down wood to the left of it.
