aparently, i lost my speed strap...
yea, i know...
anyway..
i needed one.. it was very late at night and all of the camera stores were closed..

so i made one out of an unused dell laptop bag shoulder strap..

it took about 20 min and seems to work quite well...

the newer Dell laptop bags have all metal hardware.. bonus!

so i cut the sewing on the straping and removed the hardware then reconfigured it to work as a makeshift speed strap..

I'd be wary of that swivel hook. I had a bag strap like that and guess what came apart one day under load.

you are probably right, but at the same time, the swivel hook is a huge mass of steel, not plastic or cheap metal like other ones found on other shoulder strtaps..

but personally, i am more worried about the fact that it does not have a locking mechanism..

at the same time, about an hour ago, a work friend said she found my speed strap, so i am contemplating using the original locking swivel hook that came with the rapid strap..

i like the wider thicker nylon strap on the Dell shoulder strap better than the rapid strap..

im gonna keep the new strap and either use the old swivel hook but knowing me, ill purchase a better on on line..
