So my thoughts personally

1. Price: This is pretty great. If you buy a 13in Macbook Pro with a 128GB SSD with 4 gigs of RAM it is $1549. A 13in Macbook Air with 128GB flash storage and 4 gigs or RAM is 1399. I'm impressed compared to the original fortune required to by one of these.

2. Hardware This thing is THIN! Its amazing they have Nvidia graphics with this. Yes its 256mb shared with the main memory, but take in to account OPEN CL and this will have a noticeable affect on the speed. I'd like to see the read/write times of this exposed flash memory, but I think it will be a winner. Screen resolution seems to be nice as well. And wow the battery life on this thing is great Now as photographer we like things to look good right and I think this thing is sexy! Wow I'd love to have this.

Overall this is a step in the right direction. Apple has shown they can really make things small, MOST OF THIS COMPUTER IS BATTERY! We should see our already small Apple notebooks get smaller and smaller. I think flash storage is a step in the right direction, this will most definitely help speed. Photography wise I think this would be great for a photojournalist or anyone who doesn't need to do heavy edits. Of course this thing is going to handle HDR pretty poorly but I think it could handle lightroom and light photoshop work. Should be great for anyone who wants a small, but powerful functional machine. Yes it costs a lot, but for a machine this small its amazing.

I can't wait to go to an Apple store and play with one. What are your thoughts and this technology being used with Photography

I do agree, but i don't know what else they'd use.

i3 or i5 would make it better, as it is it's an ultraportable but not really designed for photography work. C2D would do ok if you're not using massive files or huge numbers of files though.

im really interested on the 11" one. i wonder how it will perform with LR3 just for importing, organization (keywording, tagging, flagging, etc), and some light editing (exposure, WB adjustment) here and there.

1.6Ghz C2D...I really don't think it will be pretty (but would work nevertheless).

For the photo journalist, particularly ones that work in harsh climates (Africa, India, Near/Fare East) these little machines are a dream come true. I was speaking to a National Geographic photographer a few months back and she was complaining how she was seriously thinking about just taking an iPad next time she went to South America because all three of their laptops failed. I think she'll love these things.

I'm curious why they didn't go with the i3 though. It has pretty good power draw and is really cool. I'm guessing it was because of the space requirements. The logic board is tiny!

Overall, I give them 3 1/2 stars out of 5 for general use and 5 stars out of 5 for serious photo journalists. It's a niche computer to be sure.

I'd make sure I got 4GB of RAM.

4 gigs of RAM for sure. Its a hundred bucks and you can't upgrade once you've ordred it since the RAM is soldered in the logic board. i5 would be awesome but battery technology isn't there yet. Can't wait to see the next update, which will be like a long time from now.

it's certainly interesting since Apple decided to just solder the memory onto the board...the CPU is still rather slow, but I guess it's still a big step up over netbooks.

Still a niche product, but the niche is bit larger now, compared to the old Air.

SSD should make up for lack of a i5/i7 processor, although not entirely. Let's not forget the speed benefits that SSDs provide. But of course, we'll have to wait and hear some real world reviews.

It doesn't have SSD, it has flash drive. I personally think the MBP 13" is better bang for the buck. But then you have to carry around an extra 2 pounds and a little more in your pocket.

Taking the flash chips off an SSD and sticking them on the motherboard is different how?
