I've searched many times looking for reviews on monitors here and have found excellent results but for my needs I haven't been able to find exactly what I'm looking for so here it is.

I have two NEC 4:3 monitors now that I bought 4 years ago. they work well enough, but I want to upgrade to something more suited for photo editing. the catch though is that I also want to run my ps3 off the same monitor so the monitor has to have at least one HDMI port and and audio out.

Right now the monitor I'm leaning toward is the DellUltraSharp U2410. but was wondering if there was any thing else similar out there.
I 'd also like to know if anyone has run a PS3 off their IPS monitor and how well does
it work. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews about this monitor because of banding and
color tint problems.

thanks in advance.

The characteristics that make a good photo editing monitor are usually opposite to those which make a good gaming monitor. So compromises on both usages are in order.

The U2410 is a fine monitor for photo editing. Be aware that it's a wide gamut type display. Leave room in your budget for a calibration device.

For the cost of 2410 I would wait for the dell 2311 e-ips to go back on sale for 239 with FS, like it does religiously and pick up this 24 ''asus for gaming.
Just shy over 400 and you have a dual monitor set up that will do both task well over par.

Dell U2311H E-IPS : $239
Asus 24'' 2ms TN : $189
= $428
Both with free shipping

dell 2410 is $539

Of course, you'll need to get the asus in the next 32 hours while the sale is going on, and just be patient on the U2311H which I have been waiting on for a week now since i missed the last sale

Can we this statement notarized and framed?

The problem is that with the monitor designations given you don't know what panel you get. The same monitor can come with an IPS panel or a wreck, depending on what the brand (not manufacturer) felt like that day. What is worse, the first pieces of a new model are always made with good panels (for the reviewers and early adapters who likely post, well, here!) and then the junk trinkels in later.

I bought my last monitor by putting "S-IPS" into the search box at Ebay. Click "search body of posting" and went from there. I picked a HP LP2065 that was guaranteed S-IPS. It is still my main color correction monitor, although I do the bulk of the editing on a larger but lesser monitor. All of them are color calibrated of course, that is a must.

The trick here is that people by monitors that are probably a good panel, look up what they got and then ditch it on Ebay saying what you get. That's what I need.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

Grab the one for 230 and the asus and your set for gaming and photo editing, and will be technology proof for a few years

Hi dgoakill,

I have been reading too much about NEC display panels, now all I see is NEC Display panels all over the place, someone please help

I liked the dell U2410 (external link)but, they have the backlit bleed, and color tent problems (external link).

I Like the NEC 24” Display do you have one please elaborate on your NEC Display…

NEC - PA241W-BK-SV (external link)

Or

NEC – PA241W-BK (external link)

I am ordering two of these bad boys PA241W-BK-SV (external link)

TFT Central (external link) has a nice right up on the NEC PA241W and some of the options

And ColorWiki (external link) has a nice right up on the NEC PA241W

How can you make a generalization like this when there are so many satisfied users not experiencing these alleged issues?

Comparing the Dell U2410 to the NEC PA241W is like comparing a Ford Mustang to a Ferrari. The Dell is an excellent upper consumer level monitor, while the NEC is a fully professional level unit. The NEC has a 14 bit internal 3D LUT. The display panels are hand picked for QC. The optional Spectraview calibration system is a proprietary system for directly hardware calibrating the monitor at the monitor LUT level.

If you go with the NEC, you'll get Eizo level performance at a much better price.
