Split-prism focusing screen for 5D mkII?

Does anyone use a split-prism focusing screen on their 5D mkii?

I use an Eg-S focusing screen in my 5d mkii and a Katzeye split-prism screen in my T2i. While I like the Eg-S screen, I really like the additional feedback that I get from the Katzeye screen.

Katzeye doesn't make a 5D screen. Are there any split-prism screens out there for the 5Dii? Are they any good?

I'm curious as well. Although you might lose the metering.

Check out the haoda screens linked after:

They say they work with the canon 5d mki and mkii.

I have always heard great things about both the haoda and katz eye screens.

Btw, how do you like the katz eye on your t2i. Mine is set to arrive this early next week.

Cheers

Screws up metering so no spot metering. You're kind of stuck with evaluative metering. I do find at wider focal lengths it's easier to get precise focus. Unfortunately, you're locked to center of frame too. Maybe the Haoda is better than the Canon ec-b screen that I used, but at least the canon was cheaper if almost unusable. I'd opt for a matte focusing screen and viewfinder magnifier as I find it the best solution for me.

Katz eye says there is no metering change up to F2.8. After that only spot and partial seem to be affected noticeably.

I was more interested in how effective the prism is for focusing.

I have the Katz eyes for my 450D and whilst it is good when I needed it (I have lots of MF lenses) I do find the eg-s far superior on a brighter viewfinder. It's far easier to compose with the matted screen than the split screeen (this is my opinion only btw).

What is interesting though is that the Katz eyes was oh so very expensive (i had few add ons) and I was pleasently surprised when I found out that the eg-s was far cheaper.

Just a thought, why not use Live View for manual focus? I do on my 1 series Canon and find it excellent especially as I can magnify the image (x5 or x10) to get very precise focus and it's free - you have already paid for it when you bought the camera! There is a catch, there always is, it's very diffcult to use the Live View for MF if the camera is not on a tripod. Nothing is perfect!

Ya, for sure there is manual focusing via live view, but I find that a bit cumbersome. Also, in bright daylight, the lcd screen can be a bit too difficult to look at, while the viewfinder will remain bright and sharp.

Not had that problem yet, but I can see where you are coming from. I love live view because I often use ND filters and when the viewfinder is too dark the Live view is still bright.

Ohh for sure, I use live view all the time for landscape shooting. Even with my 10stop nd filter, like you said, the lcd still represents a fairly accurate image.

I'm a 5DmkII user, was looking for a split prism screen, and this post helped me find what I'm looking for. Just one question:
If they are making these focus screens based on 1Dmkxs, (which is cropped compared to full frame 5ds) would it be big enough? Will one end user be able to "make one" from a 1Dmkx focus screen?
Thanks in advance!
TT
