1 year non exclusive

Hello there, I've got someone interested in purchasing the right to a photo to print in a publication they are putting out. The contract would be for 1 year with non exclusive rights. Any suggestions on what to charge?

What is the circulation of the publication? 1/8th page, 1/4 page, front cover....? How unique is the photo? Need all the details to be able to quote it accurately.

The photo it self is pretty unique, but it has been used in other publications and won contests.
The circulation and page size I will have to find out.

8.5x11 license doc., photo takes up 20% of the page
1 year non exclusive
They're paying $200

Here's some fun math for you...

Newspaper 1: Circulation 116,000 pays $100
Newspaper 2: Circulation 560,000 pays $200
Newspaper 3: Circulation 1.8 million pays average of $100
Newspaper 4: Circulation 2.1 million pays $100
Newspaper 5: Circulation 8.2 million says they have no budget.

IDK how these places do their math and create budgets. So a publication of 1,500 at $200 is not bad. Unless of course you're talking about a sales brochure or something like that, which is not editorial and commercial usage which means it goes up.

Random update - after saying NO, they came back asking for a price and JUMPED at the first price given. Just goes to show yet again you don't give away your images because they say there's no budget, editors are taught to ask free for first!!
