Some of the census records I read from the 1850s on are darn near indecipherable! And, forget trying to read personal letters from back then. The writing styles of that time were very different from today. A doctor's prescription slip today would look like a penmanship award winner compared to the stuff I try to puzzle over on a daily basis... neil_r wrote in post #11228591 Many years ago a secretary sent something I had written back to me with the words "For heavens sake Neil use print!" Now I do and it is completely legible and as a result of practice just as fast as script ![]() BearLeeAlive wrote in post #11228881 Like Neil, I went to printing and completely dumped the cursive stuff once I started into post secondary studies. My handwriting was pretty bad, but with all the drafting I took, my printed word is very legible, though usually not that neat. I started printing in the Navy. Being a Quartermaster required me to keep logbooks and sometimes the entries came rapidly. The logbooks had to be legible so I learned to print quickly and clearly... BearLeeAlive wrote in post #11228881 That letter would just fall on deaf ears, this is a very common occurrence on flights. Maybe, but it will give some measure of satisfaction to write and send it... I think I'm going to put something on my blog as well. John

Well, we've been talking about "fast" lenses since before they invented that new-fangled "autofocus" contraption. Actually, it's because at large ("fast") apertures, you can use a faster shutter speed than you would be able to if the max. aperture wasn't as large. Jon

Nov 05, 2010 09:22 | #3265 5 more days!! Almost had a heart attack packing a bag. I filled it up about half way and thought I'd weight it to see just how much I have in it... Saw 26 on the scales and freaked out (only in my mind).. Since airlines limit to about 23-26kg. And I had hardly put anything in!! Then I realised the scales were in lbs... talk about a pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeew moment!!

It has nothing to do with speed of focus (as some people try to say) as the term was used way before auto focus was even thought about. Neil - © NHR Photography
