That looks nice, John. You should, however, open the window a little for Heather.

We just finished our Thanksgiving. I did the cooking......Turkey stuffing/dressing, bean casserole, homemade cranberry sauce, corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, and a store-bought pumpkin pie (not yet served). This is substantially the same meal we've been eating since those days back in Scranton at Lois' grandmother.

The big difference between then and now is not the food, or even the quality of the food. It's the thinning crowd at the table. Back then there were usually 10 or 12 people eating together. Now, most of them have passed, and it's down to just Lois, Pat, and me. Today, Pat decided to go golfing, so it's just Lois and me. **sigh**

The other big difference between now and then, there were 3 people to do the cooking, Lois' mom, aunt, and grandmother. Lois' uncle carved the turkey. That was his one and only job, but he was a master at it. There were a few small kids to shuttle dirty dishes from the dining room to the kitchen, and others to actually do the dishes.

Now, I do everything. Literally EVERYTHING.

Thanksgiving wears me out, but I truly am thankful for the opportunity to do it, and the ability to do a halfway decent job of it.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Thanks for the offers, everyone. Next year, it's turkey dinner at Denny's.

BTW, just about the time I get the mess cleaned up, BIL will walk in the door and want leftovers.

evening all. Hope you have all had a very nice day.

For me, it's been one of those days where I have literally had to MAKE myself remember all the things to be thankful for. And I know I have a lot of them. Sometimes family, or ex family, can make such a resolution difficult. I'm trying to practice the "water off a ducks back though". Hope the rest of the day will be better.

Right now there's a Red-tailed Hawk somewhere in the area. I hear him but haven't seen him.

Happy Thanksgiving! May your day be filled with happy, in whatever form that takes for you. For us, it is loud, crowded, getting in the way, taking sides during the football games and insulting each others choices, forgetting that one dish that completes the meal (we are undecided if it will be the cranberries or the yams *shudder* this year, lol), probably a food fight of some sort and a HUGE mess. In other words, perfection :D

On a more serious note, I truly am grateful for my family. It is brought home to me upon occasion that I have a very special one. It is easy to get caught up in the petty day to day stuff and be annoyed with loved ones, to the point that sometimes all communication comes to a halt. I have striven to overcome my own inner child where some of that is concerned. In fact, my Sister in law and I are becoming close, and I truly am enjoying her uniqueness. Of course it helps that she put down the bottle ;)
There are enough people in the world to fight with, ones family should not be in that number.

Be well :D

Good words

While on the Millennium Falcon, Why does Chewbacca wear a headset? I mean, Han is right there. They're smugglers, so it's not like they're going to be chatting with a bunch of other ships, right? Therefore, under the scrutiny of this overwhelming evidence, I must conclude that Chewie has an iPod.

In summary, I would like to know what Chewie has on his playlists.

:lol:Lmbo, twice, hahaha!

[Serious post, read at your own peril]

Thanksgiving. It's been around for some time. Not just the holiday, but as long as we, the human race, have been around. As the word says, it's giving thanks. It's a verb. An action. It's where a person sets their will to be thankful for something. Some aspect of their life that brings joy, relief, refuge that they're glad isn't different than it is.

We've set aside a day specifically for the purpose of Giving Thanks. To cast an eye over their lot and find those nuggets in the maelstrom we call life that give us warmth.

Thanksgiving isn't about food. It isn't a pit stop between Hallowe'en and Christmas. It isn't the line of demarcation that separates "Black Friday" from the rest of the calendar. It isn't about football. It isn't, surprisingly, about friends and family getting together for the feast. It isn't even comparing what you have to what others do not.

It's about taking inventory of your soul and being thankful. Thankful that you can give and receive love. That you have what you have.

For me, I have a loving wife. I have great kids... and grandkids. A roof over my head, clothes on my back and food for the table. I have a job. I have cherished friends. I have my health. My brain, such as it is, still functions. I can laugh, cry, love.

In a way, I think that it's sad that we need to create a day wherein we pause in the rush of living to give thanks.

Thanksgiving isn't a day. Thanksgiving is a mindset.

[/serious post, read at your own peril]

Thanks for being some of those cherished friends in my life.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Great words Dan

I found it perilous to write.

I found Sonnet 116. I was going to record it. Then I was having too much fun reading it like I was a redneck. After that, I figured that there was no way I'd ever be able to read it seriously ever again.
