They will allow you to purchase the 'new' Mack warranty within 30 days of purchase of the refurb from canon. I spoke to them twice about it and got them to write it in an email.

Could you share who you spoke with and who you got the email from? When I spoke w/ the girl at Mack, even though I told her the 90 days didn't start until I got the camera, she said they went by the invoice date, and that there had to be 90 days of mfg warranty left to qualify for a 'new' warranty. Called 2 of the dealers that they listed here in NJ, and both would only offer the warranty if I bought the camera from them. Going to call Adorama today.

I got a Canon 7D and the file numbering started at 9470 when I inserted a brand new CF card in it. Does that mean that the camera has 9470 actuation or its just a number. I wish there was a way to get the shutter count..

Does EOSinfo not work with the 7D? Forgive my ignorance if it does not. As for the file numbers, they can be skewed by CF cards that are already keyed to certain file numbers through usage in other camera bodies.

For instance, I bought a 50D in March brand new. I stuck the CF card I had used in my old Rebel XT into the new camera, and the file numbers were immediately in the high 1000s.

Helen,

I checked the link you sent me. Looks like those are all 'used' warranties. It's my understanding that the refurb'd 7D's from Canon qualify for a 'new' warranty. That's what the girl at Mack told me (as long as there are 90 days of mfg warranty left).

I've sent an email to the MD at Mack to check this out, as this is not the information that we've been told to give to refurb customers.

I spoke with Debbie at Mack and got her to email me as well. I specifically asked her about the 90 day warranty rule for a refurb as my 5DII camera from Canon was purchased a week prior - she told me to get the "new" warranty and that it would be ok even though there were less than 90 days left (I purchased the 'new' Mack warranty from Beach camera).

And, the "new" Mack camera warranty card actually mentions "refurbished" on it - so it is the right type of warranty for a refurb - the trouble is the 90 day rule but according to Debbie at Mack it should be ok if purchased within 30 days of camera purchase. I bought 2 (a week or so after buying the refurbs) so they had better honor it, and I have an email from Debbie to say it would be ok.

P.S. I can forward you the email from Mack if you want.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I spoke to Josh at Beach about it, and he said I could get the <$1500 'diamond service' 3-year Mack Warranty on my refurb'd 7D. Was pretty cheap at $112.xx, considering it has the ADH as well. That's less than half of the deductible on my homeowner's policy, so I think I might just go with it.

then sell the 20D to me for $100, and I'll mail you a broken Canon P&S to trade in. all values are the same regardless of model. :-)
