What is the average shutter count? I would think under 100 according to what the lady told me. If mine has over 1000, it's going back.

who's getting refurbs with a 12,000 shutter count?...there hasn't been anyone here posting that....

Bought 7D late Oct last year and got one with 7K... returned and exchanged it because it was too high in my opinion. The second one was 26K... exchanged it again and the 3rd one was 40K. Gave up and bit the bullet to buy a new one.

Wow, that is disappointing, these are obviously used cameras. How do you exchange? What do you tell them? Or do you just return or buy again?

Your experience seems to go against this....

What is a "Refurbished" Camera? Refurbished cameras include: dealer overstocks, damaged packaging returns, test units pulled from production, and customer returns. Refurbished cameras are calibrated to factory specifications, updated to latest firmware, and in most cases cannot be distinguished from new products. The majority of the cameras are arriving to buyers with a shutter count of less than 1,000, with some as low as 12-15.

Sometimes you get unlucky...3 times. Oh well...Iike I posted earlier, my 5DM2 came with 5 shutter count, and enjoying it every minute of it.

7k is nothing on these, it was unwise to return it.

Also, even though Canon 'claims' a three month window, they have been known to make exceptions. Of course, if you were really worried about it, a Mack warranty could provide you as much warranty as you're willing to pay for.

The 24-105 is in stock but the 5D2 is not :(

I wish they would put the 5D2 kits on CLP. Could save $238 over the 5D2 body + 24-105 lens at 20% off.

When you returned it, what did you tell them?
that it has high shutter count?

Just ordered a 7D body and a 17-40mm f4 L.

Talked to "Barbara," and she was extremely helpful and nice. Our call actually got cut off just as she was taking the order, and I freaked out a little bit because she had mentioned that I should jump on that lens if they had any since they don't get them often. She called me right back, though, and it got taken care of.

Should be in my hands on Monday. I'm excited!

I received my 7D a week or so ago and it had a total of 12 shutter clicks according to EOSCOUNT.com. That was low enough for me. :)

That's your opinion. I disagree. For some casual shooters, 7k shots is nearly a year worth of shooting wear. If he wants to get another, fine--he can get 3x CLP bodies each year. And it's not like there's any shortage of 7D bodies. If we were talking about a 5d2, that would be another matter entirely.

So you disagree because 7k is 'a year of shooting' to someone who shoots casually? Fine. If paying ~30% more to get an expected 7% more durability out of something seems like a wise move to you, then feel free to return it and go purchase brand new. Hardly makes sense to me.

I don't think it directly translates as 7k shutter count = 7% durability lost. It's more that the camera has had a more certain, measurable amount of time that it was exposed to use, during which it could have been subjected to more stresses that could negatively affect its life. The fact that these stresses and exposures are unknown amplifies their impact on the person receiving a camera that is expected to be "like new". In these situations, 7k shutter count could mean a much higher and indirectly correlated percentage of wear on the body that user doesn't feel comfortable with.

The camera is never promised to be 'like new'. It's been refurbished by Canon and may exhibit flaws and imperfections. Yes, the majority of cameras from the program appear to be like new and have very low shutter counts, but this is never actually promised by Canon directly.

Taken from the above -

What is a "Refurbished" Camera? Refurbished cameras include: dealer overstocks, damaged packaging returns, test units pulled from production, and customer returns. Refurbished cameras are calibrated to factory specifications, updated to latest firmware, and in most cases cannot be distinguished from new products. The majority of the cameras are arriving to buyers with a shutter count of less than 1,000, with some as low as 12-15.

Bolded sections stand right out to me. There is no guarantee that the camera is indistinguishable from new or that the camera was not used. Yeah, while it says the 'majority' of the cameras under within those parameters (< 1000 clicks, appears to be like new) there is never a specific guarantee that this is the case.

Thus, if the 7D I received had 7k on the shutter, I wouldn't have cared. Now, 26k on the shutter, and I could agree with you.

Ok? I'm not sure what that proves or disproves here as no one is arguing their refurb was guaranteed to be brand new. "Like new" seems to be a reasonable expectation based on your bolded statement above. Obviously it's not guaranteed. My post above was simply conveying how it's not a direct 1-to-1 relationship of shutter clicks to durability as you stated. Your feeling of comfort in receiving a camera with a 7k shutter count doesn't validate nor negate someone else's feeling about it.
