Finally decided to jump on this and get it. And they are out of the 5dii. I'll just try daily until they are available again. I can't believe people are paying 1800 for used ones still...

They just aren't aware of the program?

Decent ones are now showing up around $1650 over at FM, though you're looking at 20-30K shutter clicks typically. I've also seen some $1900 ones going with grip and extra battery, etc. There are deals out there to be had.

I am in Toronto and just bought a really nice 5D Mk II with 19K clicks for $1500 on "Kijiji".(similar to Craigslist)

Being in Canada I couldn't really take advantage of the CLP, but I was considering trying to get my cousin in Calif to buy it for me and then ship it to Canada. In the end $1500 face to face, was a whole lot easier than $1400 plus taxes and shipping.

FedEx just dropped off my 5D Mk II and I immediately plugged it into EOSinfo. Shutter count: 12. Would I be correct in assuming that most of the 5D Mk IIs being found on the refurbished site are most likely merchant returns . . . clearing space for the MkIIIs?

It feels great in my hands -- though I had just gotten used to the buttons on the bottom of the LCD with my 50D. I guess my Digital Rebel XT is going to find its way over to the classified section. But, with all the new fangled dslrs out there, I'm not sure the XT would capture much interest.

I'm pretty sure they are store returns, I can't think of any real use the cameras could have gotten with <100 clicks.

My refurbished 5D Mark II was delivered today :)

I must say, it looks absolutely brand new. Not a single mark or dust speck on it. Screens still had the peely film covering on. OK, so it LOOKS brand new...how about the shutter count?

Popped the battery in and plugged in the USB cable, ran EOSinfo:

A whopping 22. All of which I'm guessing were the Canon workers testing it :)

So, yes, I would absolutely recommend a refurbed Canon camera to anyone looking to save some money, especially through the CLP program like I did!

Unlikely, these were probably units that failed a check during production and were pulled from the assembly line. If it was something correctable (and feasible) it's usually fixed and completes production, but because it didn't make it through on the initial pass, Canon won't sell these as brand new (they instead sell them as refurbished units).

But last Thursday when Scott from Canon CLP called me to tell me that 90 5ds had come on for sale, I found it hard to believe that 90 cameras would have failed their tests, or that 90 people would have returned their cameras after a month, or . . .

Earlier last week, Monday (I believe), the web site showed that 5ds were for sale. I called them and the guy told me that there weren't any for sale. I told him the web site showed they were. He quickly checked and said that the camera had been sold. So, at that time It seemed as though only 1 camera was available.

Whether a store return or a camera that failed a check . . . I'm sure I'll love the new body!

Do the 5D Mark II's pop up regularly? I can't ever seem to catch them in stock.

Blast all you guys and your low shutter counts. The one I just got in yesterday had 5800!

That's okay though - the camera, lens and flash literally looked brand new.. No hairline scratches on LCD or any parts of the plastic, etc.

I want to get either the 7D or 60D with the 24-70 L. Does anyone know how often Canon restocks the 24-70? Anyone who follows the refurb lenses closely? Thanks!
