So, I feel knit picky, but after cleaning enough dirt off of it, and getting tired of doing so (the lens mount was absolutely filthy), I saw a number of small things that added together didn't make me happy. Even had the shutter count been low, I wouldn't have been happy with the physical condition. The rubber coating around the mode selection dial was peeling, the grip cover stuff wasn't glued well near the AF assist light, etc.

It basically looks like they replaced the LCD cover and the sensor, everything else basically looked used and unlcleaned.

Anyway, I have the RMA and am returning. Hopefully the next one will be better.

Well, I didn't win the CLP lottery. 50D came with more than 14,600 shutter actuations. Doesn't look bad overall, but the tripod mount threads look used, the white lettering on the back for the buttons (like the on switch) show obvious signs of usage, and the hot shoe shows a little wear.

I'd say it's good condition for almost 15,000 actuations, but I'm disappointed a bit overall.

That is a LOT of actuations. Call and ask for a replacement. Requests of that nature (for such a high number) have been granted in the past.

I've already got the RMA number and another on the way. One thing I forgot to ask was if I had to pay for the return shipping. It appears that is the case. Oh well, USPS priority with insurance is only like $16.

Oh, and I didn't even mention the shutter count when I called. I just mentioned I'd been cleaning dirt and gunk off it and decided I'd rather just exchange it because I wasn't happy with the condition. Of course, it looks quite a bit better than it did when I got it.

You CAN get a prepaid label from them. I'd call back and make it clear to the CSR that you're not pleased you received a unit with basically 1/6 its overall life gone. This is not simply a case of an "I'm picky" exchange.

Am considering getting a T1i through the program.
I'm reading that I can get a good camera this way. I recently lost an XSI to salt water, so I want a good replacement and I read the T1i has some better features like more RAW images in burst over the XSI.

I've read a lot here. Could I get a good camera through the program?

Thanks for any responses.

The t1i is better than the xsi, but only marginally. You may as well pay a little bit more and get at least a t2i through the program

CF cards and readers? $30 for a 16gb 400x CF card on sale and about $2-$4 for a reader... those minor points truly help you determine which body and lens you'll be using?

Still want to know which cards and where you got them from.

7D, BG-E7, BGE2x2 (both FS), 17-55 f/2.8 IS, 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS (FS), 50 f/1.8, 85 f/1.8, 70-200 f/2.8L IS Mk I, 70-300 f/4-5.6L, 550EX, Kenko Pro300 1.4xTC

Transcend 400x 16gb CF, on two separate occasions in the last few months they've gone on sale for $30 at multiple retailers (adorama, B&H), and picked a couple up. They also had a rebate going, and it was an extra $7.50 off each.

Decent CF card deals pop up once a month or two. Create an alert on Slickdeals, and you'll eventually end up with a good price.

Combine that with the recent newegg business account deal (they were getting $25 off coupons on $75+ purchases), and you've got a smoking price!
